TripIt turned twenty this year. That's worth sitting with for a second, because it means an entire generation of frequent travellers has now spent two decades doing the same thing every time they book something: forward the confirmation email, wait for the itinerary to assemble itself, move on with their day. It's a genuinely good habit. TripIt deserves credit for making it normal.
But twenty years is a long time in travel technology, and the shape of the problem TripIt solved in 2006 isn't quite the shape of the problem frequent travellers have now.
What TripIt Got Right, and Why It Stuck
The core insight was simple and correct: your inbox is where the chaos lives, so meet the chaos where it is. Forward the confirmation, get it a home. No new app to learn, no manual data entry, no retyping a confirmation number at 6am with one eye open. That single mechanic, forward-and-forget, is why TripIt became the default answer to "how do I keep my trips straight" for millions of travellers.
If you're an occasional traveller with two or three trips a year, that mechanic alone might still be all you need.
Where the Job Changes for Frequent Travellers
The digital nomad or frequent business traveller isn't booking two trips a year. They're stitching together flights, trains, coworking bookings, and city-hopping itineraries that don't always have clean start and end points. A single "trip" might involve four flights, two ferries, and a week of overlapping hotel stays across three cities, not always a name, but a shape of movement.
That's where a plain itinerary list starts to strain. It can tell you what's next. It's less built for the traveller who needs to know what's next right now, mid-transit, gate-checking a bag, with a connecting flight closing in forty minutes.
What We Built Differently
NomadSync starts from the same forward-and-forget instinct TripIt normalised, Magic Import parses your booking emails the same way. But from there, the product goes further in three specific directions.
Trip stitching, not just a list. Instead of a flat feed of bookings, NomadSync detects the actual boundaries of a trip, departure from home, return to home, and merges everything in between into one cohesive timeline. Four flights and a ferry in the middle of a multi-city loop still read as one trip, in order, not four disconnected entries.
Live, not static. A flight status widget that updates gate changes and delays in real time sits inside the same timeline as your hotel check-in and your dinner reservation. Weather, currency conversion, and translation are contextual to wherever you are in the trip right now, not a separate tool you have to remember to open.
The Vault and POI Memory. Original booking documents and boarding pass QR codes live in one place, not spread across a dozen email threads. And POI Memory means the coffee shop your friend recommended in Lisbon, or the coworking space that had decent Wi-Fi last time, gets saved to that city specifically, so it resurfaces the next time you're back.
The Honest Comparison
TripIt is mature, well-tested, and free at its most basic tier, that's real, and it's not nothing. If your travel is occasional and your main need is "put my itinerary in one place," it still does that job well.
NomadSync is built for a different pace of travel; more frequent, more improvised, more likely to involve a home base you're leaving and returning to on a loop rather than a single round trip. If that's closer to how you actually move through the world, that's the gap we built to close.
